Sailor for a day: Oyster farming
Oyster farming on Arcachon Bay: a long story…
Arcachon Bay is the largest oyster-farming centre in Europe. Come aboard, meander through oyster farms by the Île aux Oiseaux and make a stopover to enjoy a walking tour of the most beautiful oyster farms of Cap Ferret peninsula.
Equipment: bring boots or sturdy, waterproof shoes for the mud and sea water!
A fun and original way to learn about a rich and diverse marine environment:
– Awaken children’s curiosity about oysters and their environment.
– Learn about the different steps involved in oyster farming.
– Better understand the oyster farmer’s living environment and way of life.
Our suggestion: Meet oyster farmers from Cabane 166 at La Teste de Buch Port who will share their passion for their profession with you.
